In the small town of Norway, Iowa (population 586), everyone
believes in the magic of baseball. As the saying goes, "Norway is
baseball." The town savors tradition and swells with pride because
the varsity Norway Tigers have won 19 state baseball championships
in the last 24 years.
As
the leader of the most successful team in state history, Coach Jim
Van Scoyoc is no stranger to winning. But in late 1990, Van Scoyoc
finds defeat off the ball field when the Iowa State School Board
decides to merge Norway High with a nearby school. Not only is Coach
Van Scoyoc losing his team, but Norway is in danger of losing its
identity.
1991 is Norway's last season to wear
the Tiger uniforms and it is up to rookie coach Kent Stock to
lead the team to a final and 20th state championship. With all the
odds suddenly stacked against them, how will Norway be remembered?
The Norway Tigers must find the strength in themselves and faith in
each other, to bring their winning tradition to life one last time.
THE FINAL SEASON, is a true story of a coach who inspired a broken
team and brought hope to a town when they needed it most.
